On the way to the Clare Valley

Most people think of the Barossa or the Main North Road when they think about getting to the Clare Valley — but there's a quieter way in from the west. Port Wakefield–Auburn Road runs east from our corner and lands you in Auburn, a Clare Valley town, without backtracking through Adelaide's northern suburbs.

Kipling's has been baking on that corner since 1993 — the natural spot to fuel up before turning off toward the Valley.

What to grab before you turn off

• A pie or pasty to start the day properly before a run of cellar doors.
• Coffee, made fresh at the counter.
• Something from the sweet cabinet — apple scrolls, vanilla slice, éclairs and donuts — for the drive home.

Can I get to the Clare Valley via Port Wakefield?

Yes — Port Wakefield–Auburn Road runs east out of Port Wakefield and leads to Auburn, which sits at the southern end of the Clare Valley wine region. It's a different approach to the more common route through the Barossa or straight up the Main North Road.

Is there somewhere to stop before heading into wine country?

Kipling's Bakery sits right at the Port Wakefield end of Auburn Road, on Highway 1, and has been baking on site since 1993. It's the last stop before the road turns off toward the Valley.

What's good to grab before a day of wine tasting?

Something solid before you start — a pie or a pasty — plus coffee. The sweet cabinet (apple scrolls, vanilla slice, éclairs) is there for the drive home too.

What time does the bakery open?

We're open 7:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 3:00pm Saturday and 8:00am – 4:00pm Sunday.

Heading somewhere else?
